On the heels of the Iron Butt Rally, much of the discussion has underscored just how competitive a group of Type A personalities can be for 11 days. However, the sheer magnitude of a multi-day rally challenge, or even a 24 hour event full of Big Dogs, can be very intimidating to a rider who is new to our sport. With this in mind and recognizing that introducing new riders to rallying is critical to the future of the sport, the IBA will be offering an 8 hour rally during the Tennessee Regional Meet. We expect that this will be a great opportunity for newer riders who want to see what this rally thing is all about. It will also be designed to offer a fun challenge to more experienced riders who want to test their skills in the hills and hollers of the lower Appalachians. The world class motorcycle roads, awesome scenery, and deep history of the area around Kingsport make for a perfect setting for a rally. Local information gleaned from IBA members who call the area home ensure you're in for a treat. Make your plans now to be a part of this fun event! We'll have a brief rider meeting Thursday evening, September 3. Riders will be able to roll out for the 8 hour rally at 8:00 am local time Friday morning, September 4. Riders will need to check back in before 4:00 pm local time to finish without a penalty. In addition to whatever you use for routing - gps, laptop, etc - every rider will need a smartphone and know how to take and send photos with it via email. Rally bonuses will be emailed as .gpx, .gdb and .txt files, along with printed info with the coordinates if you prefer to enter them manually. To sign up, send Lisa an email: Lisa (at) ironbutt.com. She'll send you more info including how to pay the $20 entrance fee. There are a very limited number of slots available for this rally and registration open only to those attending the IBA Tennessee Meet. Advance registration is required and the deadline for registering for the 8 hour rally is midnight on August 22nd. Don’t miss out! PS - if you registered a guest, please do pass this on to them as we do not have their email addresses. Thanks and see you all soon!
